Who we work with

We work with some of the world's most marginalised people. Isolated in rural communities and discriminated against by the society they live in, they struggle to make sure that their voices are heard. As a result they are trapped in a cycle of poverty.



Small Farmers
mablechango2The people we work with depend on agriculture to feed their families and earn an income. However they often don't have the tools, seeds and land they need to grow decent crops. There are also fewer natural resources then there used to be and the rains aren't coming when they used to, if they come at all.

Women

Malti Devi, IndiaIn poor countries, women are responsible for growing more food and running more small businesses than men. Despite this, many of the women we work with still don't have a voice in their communities. In fact gender discrimination is still a major cause of poverty.

Muklu Tudu, IndiaDespite the abolition of India's caste system in the 1960s discrimination against some of the lower castes is still very much a reality. Dalits still struggle to find decent employment and access essential services and Tribal People are being forced out of the forests they have depended on for centuries.

Handloom weaver Sukha DeviUntil recently 700,000 people around Varanasi earnt their living by weaving beautiful silk saris. Now their livelihoods are coming under threat as cheap chinese 'fakes' flood the market. This is driving down the cost of the Varanasi saris, forcing them to seek loans from moneylenders in order to survive.
