Boost family income

Durpal making Jalebies"Over the past few years the crops have been failing. This meant that I couldn't feed my family.

Now, with the help of (FYF partner) PLANET I have set up a business selling hot and juicy Jalebies to people at the market.

Like my sweets PLANET has added a pleasant flavour in our life that had turned sour with poverty and deprivation." Durpal Bai, India.

People living in remote rural villages struggle to find a chance to earn a decent living. As a result, most of the people we work with survive on just 40p a day and struggle to meet their families' basic needs.

However lots of people have innovative ideas for ways they might make the money they need to survive. Like making Jalebies to sell in the market. We support people like Durpal to develop small businesses that have a local market so that they can boost their income by:

  • Supporting groups to start saving together - a bit like microcredit but community owned. Have a look at our blog to read more.

  • Providing training in vocational skills like pickle-making and traditional bamboo craft work.

  • Training community members in financial management.

  • Supporting people to sell direct to market rather than through middlemen.
