My first marathon!

The Virgin London marathon will take place on Sunday 22nd April 2012.

The Virgin London Marathon official ballot closed in April 2011 and they will be notifying applicants of the ballot outcome in early October 2011.

If you are successful in securing your own place, then let us know as we'd be delighted for you to join our team! There will be no fundraising target but every penny you raise will have a long-lasting impact to the families we work with.

By applying for a charity place to join FYF's Virgin London Marathon team 2012, you will have the chance to take part in one of the most exciting sporting events while also knowing that every step you take will help people in the poorest rural communities to lift themselves out of hunger and poverty, building a better future for their families.

We ask each runner to commit to raising a minimum of £1,500 (excluding gift aid) and in return you will recieve:

FYF t-shirt or running vest
Fundraising and training support and advice
Regular FYF updates on our work and the difference you can make
Lots of cheering and support on the day!
Post-race picnic and goody bag

We know how much hard work and dedication you need to run a marathon, and we will be there throughout to help make your Virgin London Marathon 2012 a fantastic experience from start to finish!

FYF team 2011

Clem_Rob_Matt_Rich_-_web_page FYF had a fantastic team running in the Virgin London Marathon 2011. The sun shone, the crowds cheered and our all our team finished in a state of exhilaration and exhaustion!

So far our 5 runners have raised an amazing £10,000 to support rural families in India, Malawi, Nepal and Zimbabwe to lift themselves out of poverty.

The money raised will have a life-changing impact:

Training 60 farmers in Malawi to have sustainable farming practices to improve their harvests enabling them to feed their families all year round.
AND providing tools and training for 90 people to set up small businesses so they can earn an income to provide education and healthcare for their families.
AND equiping and running 3 training centres for a year where 180 teenage girls in India can learn vital literacy and life skills to build a better future for themselves.

Celebrate 50 years

Just 50 minutes of an average salary (£10) every month could help Indian tribal villagers to set up profitable small businesses. Calculate 50 minutes of your time:

Your Support Could....

£10 could enable a Malawian community to plant 38 trees, helping them to reduce soil erosion and restore nutrients to the soil.

£25 could train a traditional birth attendant in India to give better care to pregnant women and ensure that babies are delivered safely.

£150 could train a member of a Malawian community to act as a lead farmer in their community, enabling them to teach 20 fellow farmers sustainable farming techniques that will improve their harvests.

£500 could provide training, tools and support for 10 people in India to set up small businesses using indigenous skills such as bamboo work. This will enable them to earn a sustainable income for themselves and their families.

£1000 could provide long-term training and support to 150 Indian women, empowering them to transform their communities by accessing basic government services such as clean water, education and healthcare.
