Our strategic plan, which runs from 2008-2011, illustrates our commitment to supporting long-term, community led initiatives, which provide secure and sustainable livelihoods for the rural poor.
| Towards Sustainable Livelihoods |
We will continue to promote poor people’s access to income and food security. By 2011 we aim to support 50,500 people to improve their harvests over the long term by practising sustainable farming techniques and 36,000 people to improve their income by setting up small businesses.
We'll also continue to use our experience of supporting poor farmers to influence global debates about how to achieve food security in the future.
| Towards Dignity |
We believe in supporting people to become agents of their own development. By 2011 we therefore aim to involve 60,000 in reaching their own vision for a developed community and to support 32,000 people to access services they are entitled to.
Our work will put particular emphasis on empowering women and marginalised groups to realise their economic and socio-political rights and on addressing the threat and consequences of HIV and AIDs.
| Towards Sustainable Organisations |
We would like the benefits of FYF funding to last long after we withdraw from a community. We are therefore working hard to build the skills and confidence both of the communities we work with and of our local partners.
To this end we will continue to provide support and training which builds individual and organisational capacities; will encourage linkages between civil society, government and the private sector and will facilitate networking amongst our partner organisations.
