This October we asked our supporters and all food lovers to get involved with Curry for Change, they hosted curry evenings to help make real changes to peoples lives and here's how...
Recipe for Change:
1. Signed up with Find Your Feet and recieved an event pack containing all they needed for the perfect spicy evening
2. Cooked a delicious curry (often trying new recipes from their Curry for Change event pack!)
3. Mixed in friends and familiy to enjoy an evening of delicious food
4. Stirred in donations that will help tackle poverty
5. Sprinkled in goodwill and heaps of fun!
So throughout October we went curry crazy as we celebrated National Curry Week, World Food and Diwali with plenty of curry, a huge thank you to all those who took part!
Enjoying Curry for Change!
"It was a great evening - I cooked up a feast of Potato Vindaloo, lentils and rice, naan and homemade mango chutney (I was particularly proud of this!).
Six friends came round and made a donation for dinner. Everyone was so pleased to be involved in doing something for such a worthwhile cause and it's such a fantastic idea."
We were delighted to have support from Anjali Pathak, next generation of the Patak's food dynasty, so an expert when it comes to Indian cuisine!
Anjali not only hosted her own Curry for Change evening but offered the top fundraiser an exclusive cookery masterclass!
Check out the Patak's website for Anjali's recipes and advice for lots of top tips for your perfect curry.
Changing lives...
We work with communities in rural areas where poverty is an everyday reality. But we know that this can be changed and through working with families to understand their needs and develop the skills and confidence they need, they can begin to tackle the cycle of the hunger and poverty they face. Not only does your support mean we can make real changes to people's lives, but it is a long-term change that will help to ensure generations never go hungry again.
"Through the project, five of us came together to take out a loan to but a water pump. Before, we were only growing one crop a year and never used to have enough to eat. Now we grow crops all year round and have a surplus to sell in local markets.
Now, we are able to do all that we couldnt do before. I am proud that women are now recognised as farmers and are seen as equal to men. And, with my income, I'm able to educate my children."
