Local organisations understand the needs of the communities we work with far better than we ever can.

Lots of northern NGOs now work through local partner organisations. However the power balance often remains in the hands of the northern NGO, because, ultimately, they are the ones that hold the purse strings.

We work hard to overcome this problem by investing time and energy in developing real partnerships with local organisations.

  • Our in-country office staff are committed to carefully selecting and supporting our partners.

  • Partners start by running small-scale pilot projects where they are supported with training, expertise and funding. If this is successful we commit to a longer partnership with each other, 'scaling-up' the project to reach more people.

  • We support our partner organisations to network with each other so that they can learn from each other's experiences and successes.

  • We share the lessons we have learnt through working on different projects with our partners.
